Ostranauts is a hardcore noir space-sim developed by Blue Bottle Games, set in the NEO Scavenger universe. You play as a shipbreaker starting at K-Leg station, building ships from salvaged parts, managing crew with complex needs, and navigating using Newtonian physics across a dystopian solar system where Earth was cut off in 2059.

Ship building uses a grid-based construction system with 5 layers: subfloor, floor, lower space, upper space, and ceiling. Place floor and wall placeholders, build them manually or via the orders queue, install power conduits in the ceiling layer, connect batteries, and add life support systems. The minimum flight requirements are a navigation station, at least one thruster and intake, antenna, transponder, and a battery.

First, obtain a salvage license from the License Kiosk for $5,000 (24-hour permit). Equip your EVA suit, dock with a derelict ship in the boneyard, and explore for valuable items like thrusters, air pumps, antennas, and fusion reactor equipment. Crew have both physiological needs (food, water, oxygen, temperature, hygiene, sleep) and emotional needs (privacy, security, intimacy, esteem). Ostranauts uses pure Newtonian physics — no atmospheric drag, so once a ship moves, it keeps moving until thrust is applied or gravity intervenes. Flight controls: W/S forward/back, A/D strafe, Q/E rotate, R stop. Acceleration equals total thrust divided by ship mass. Monitor Delta-V fuel constantly. G-loc blackout starts at 3.5G. Use MATCH SPEED (K key) to simplify docking approach.

Early game: courier jobs at the Gig Nexus Job Kiosk pay a few thousand dollars each. Mid game: salvage valuable components from derelict ships and sell at the License Kiosk.
